The Mixing Table Has Collaborated with City Arts to
Feature Artwork by local Youth
Seekonk, MA – January 9, 2007 – The Mixing Table, an independently owned meal preparation business, is pleased to announce that it has collaborated with Providence ¡CityArts! For Youth – a community arts organization with a mission to provide free professional arts education to Providence youth between ages 8-14 – to exhibit artwork by the students in the ¡CityArts! In-School Artist Residency Program at CVS Highlander Charter School.
There are eight paintings displayed on the walls of The Mixing Table store, from artists in grades five through eight. The paintings were done in acrylic paint and are all focused on dinner time with family. All of the youth who participated were asked to paint things that reminded them of family having dinner together, and they completed their paintings over four classes in a two-week time period.
“We are thrilled to be able to share the talents of our youth with the general public by way of the art exhibit at The Mixing Table; they are all so proud of their work,” said Alyssa Holland, Program Director, ¡CityArts!. “To have a local company take some time to appreciate what we do within our program is very special, and we appreciate the opportunity to work with the team at The Mixing Table. We hope that this collaboration will help raise awareness of the programs that we offer.”
Each of the artists were asked what dinner time with family means to them, and their responses are written with the description next to their painting in the store. They include:
Pavitra Muthu painted a coconut. “I think families should spend time together and eat dinner together,” she said.
Noheli Martinez did a still life painting of apples. She said her family always has apples around. For her, apples equal family. Her favorite way to eat an apple is plain, and her favorite types of apples are red delicious.
Jonathan Zapata painted a cake. The pink background represents love. “I like to help with the cooking in my family. My favorite thing to make is eggs because you can add anything to them.” Jonathan added that he wants to be a cook when he grows up.
Other paintings include; sandwiches, strawberries, and ice cream cones.
“We are excited to be able to showcase the artwork in our store. They did an amazing job in capturing what family dinner time means to them, and we enjoy seeing the uniqueness of each artist,” said Tracy Edes, Co-owner, The Mixing Table. “We are dedicated to working with our community not only through programs such as this, but also in promoting healthy eating, and sharing time at the dinner table with family.”
“We knew this organization was a perfect match for our company’s vision and community goals, and we feel fortunate that we can share these young talents with our customers, and support a program that allows youth to explore the world around them through art,” she continued.
